Saeluhus is a sun-drenched vacation rental right on the water in Gimli, Manitoba — a cabin that's been built, loved, and passed down through an Icelandic family for generations. The name itself, Saeluhus, means "House of Bliss," and that feeling inspired the brief for its logo.

The owners wanted guests to feel the way they do when they arrive at the lake: easy, unhurried, at home. A photo of her Afi (grandfather) at the cabin inspired the vibe of the logo. I kept coming back to it whenever the design started to feel too polished or too new.

I looked to Icelandic letterforms and rune-inspired symbolism to give the mark a sense of heritage and place. I adapted an existing font to make the letters feel like runes. I used part of the roofline and windows on the back of the cottage, along with gentle waves, a sun, and a pair of birds. I chose a lake-toned blue for the primary colour and kept line-work simple and clean so that the lines in both the mark and fonts would feel like an extension of each other.
