for the Last 20

I had the pleasure of collaborating with my friend Del Barber, an independent folk, folk-rock, Americana, and alt-country singer-songwriter, on his second album Love Songs for the Last Twenty. The record earned a 2011 Juno Award nomination for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year, and went on to win two Western Canadian Music Awards: Independent Album of the Year and Roots Solo Recording of the Year.

For this project, I created a design rooted in a handcrafted, rustic aesthetic that reflects Del’s storytelling and musical style. Nearly all of the typography was drawn by hand, making the artwork itself a true labour of love. The visual identity expanded beyond the CD packaging to include event posters, a vinyl LP, buttons, and even a custom matchbox design.
